Courage Changes Everything: Looking Back, Looking Forward

By Alida Van Staden

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” – 2 Timothy 1:7 Courage Is Built One Choice at a Time As we come to the end of our Courage journey, I’d like to ask you a simple question: What has changed for you this month? Perhaps your answer isn’t something dramatic. Maybe you finally had a conversation you’ve been avoiding. Maybe you set a healthy boundary. Maybe you took the first step towards a dream you’ve been putting off. Or perhaps you’ve simply become more aware of the fears that have been holding you back. Whatever your answer, take a moment to celebrate it. Growth isn’t measured only by the big milestones. It’s often found in the small, consistent choices we make every day. And that’s exactly what courage is. Not one extraordinary moment. But many ordinary moments where we choose to move forward instead of standing still. Looking Back Over the past four weeks, we’ve explored what courage looks like in everyday life. We discovered that: Courage begins with taking the first step, even when you don’t feel ready. Courage sometimes sounds like a respectful “no” that protects your peace and priorities. Courage is found in becoming—the daily choices that shape the woman you’re growing into. Small acts of bravery, repeated consistently, create lasting transformation. Perhaps your courageous step looked different from someone else’s. That’s okay. Personal growth is never about comparison. It’s about becoming more intentional, one choice at a time. Celebrate Your Progress One of the biggest mistakes we make is rushing on to the next goal without acknowledging how far we’ve come. Before you think about what’s next, pause and celebrate. Ask yourself: What courageous step am I most proud of this month? Where have I noticed growth in my confidence? What fear has less control over me today than it did four weeks ago? What have I learned about myself? Your answers matter. They remind you that progress is happening, even when it feels slow. Courage Creates Momentum Every courageous decision becomes the foundation for the next one. The first conversation makes the second one easier. The first healthy boundary makes the next one feel more natural. The first brave step builds confidence for the next opportunity. That’s how lasting change happens. Not through perfection. Through consistency. One brave step at a time. Courage Challenge Before this month ends, I’d like to invite you to write yourself a letter. Begin with these words: “Dear Future Me…” Write about: The courageous choices you’ve made this month. The woman you’re becoming. The habits you want to continue. The life you’re intentionally creating. Then put the letter somewhere safe. Read it again in six months’ time. You may be surprised by how much you’ve grown. A Touch of Faith One of the beautiful things about courage is that it isn’t about never feeling afraid. It’s about choosing hope over fear, one decision at a time. 2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us that we have not been given a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and a sound mind. Whenever you feel uncertain, remember that courage doesn’t ask you to have all the answers. It simply asks you to take the next step. Looking Forward Next month, we’ll begin a new journey together as we explore the theme of Momentum. Courage helps us begin. Momentum helps us continue. We’ll discover how small, consistent actions create meaningful change and how to keep moving forward even when motivation fades. I can’t wait to continue this journey with you. One Brave Step at a Time As we close this chapter, remember this: You don’t need to have all the answers. You don’t need to be fearless. You simply need to keep choosing the next courageous step. Because courage doesn’t just change what you do. It changes who you become. Thank you for allowing Equip Motivated Women to be part of your journey this month.
